The Healthbook web
How might we increase awareness of people's rights over their medical records and the ability to access those files, with the capacity to understand and interact with them?
The 'HEALTHBOOK' is a third-place winning project designed as part of a three-day hackathon. The platform aim is to provide a flourishing physiological, emotional and mental health experience. Our health mission for this system design project was to improve people's health by providing them with the tools they need to understand their medical history and conditions and play a more active role in managing and improving their health. 'The Healthbook' is a system of records that store and translates medical history reports into everyday language, designed to evolve into a system of insight and engagement. We were planning for the American public users, primarily for those with health records; ultimately, we are aiming for the global community.
Challenge & Design Opportunity
The outgrowing increase in social media usage and online searching about medicine and treatments raises the question of who owns the data? The doctor or the patient?
Today, people want to know more about their health. Current trends in big data and the technology of self-tracking devices can help them make better decisions about their lifestyle.
Patients are more active and involved with their treatment. Globalization is pushing the industries to become international, and there is a tight integration of society with the environment.
Health means flourishing physiologically, emotionally, and mentally. Optimal health comes from the patient being aware of their body and its states, their opportunities for treatment, and knowing how to lead a wholesome life given their own uniqueness.
Outcomes & Benifits
Ownership: patients gain a sense of control over their medical records and understand how the data can help them improve their lifestyle.
Connectedness: ability to connect with people all over the world with the same disease or conditions.
Sharing / checking in with family members: Ability to share and catch up with family members and update one another about test results or doctors diagnostics.
Second opinion: connect with doctors all over the world for a second opinion.
